What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil premium is: additional funding given to schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

It is also to support children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

Each eligible pupil receives £1320 for the coming academic year

Children in Ever 6 Yrs. 7-11 receive £935

Looked after children receive £1900

Children who are no longer in the care of the local authority due to adoption, a special guardianship order or a residence order. £1900

Children whose parents have served in the regular armed forces receive £300

What is funding based on?

The criteria for funding is based on those children who are eligible for Free School Meals. (This information is taken from a census carried out twice a year.)

The premium is in addition to main school funding

Schools are free to decide how they spend the premium.

Evidence from schools as to its effectiveness is driven by :-

·         Performance and data

·         OFSTED

What are the common barriers to learning faced by eligible pupils?

·         Sometimes home learning is not supported well, eg hearing children read or helping with homework

·         Lack of access to resources to enable learning to take place at home such as computers and internet

·         Weak language and communication skills

·         Lack of confidence and low self-esteem can lead to lack of aspiration

·         Attendance and punctuality difficulties can lead to lost learning opportunities

We recognise that the challenges faced are varied and there is no “one size fits all”.

How will the Premium be spent at Meadowdale ?

This academic year we have implemented :-

·         Intervention groups in English and maths in addition to the purchase of the relevant materials

·         LSA’s employed to support children both in lessons and at break and lunch time

·         A learning support mentor and ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support assistant)

·         Breakfast club

·         Nurture group

·         Music tuition

·         Purchase of school uniform and Sports kit

·         New books to support the launch of Accelerated reading

·         Revision guides

·         School visits and Outdoor pursuit activity centre breaks.

·         Creative curriculum activities with outside providers to inspire and engage

·         Visiting Theatre companies

·         Business ventures

·         ‘Speed dating’ careers advice

·         Drugs awareness workshops, cyber bullying and anti-bullying workshops.

·         Sporting activities through the Sports partnership

What has the impact of this been?       

·         Fantastic results throughout the school with pupils making good progress.

·         Opportunities to experience and to participate in outdoor pursuits

·         Sporting activities through sports partnership.

·         Improved attendance

·         Enrichment activities throughout the school engage pupils of all ages as learners, raise achievement and inspire.

 

Staffing

We have appointed governors with specific responsibility for Pupil Premium

Mrs Gair is the school lead for Pupil Premium

Mrs Morgan and Mrs Allison oversee interventions and data collection respectively

Mrs Warren our financial manager works closely with Mrs Gair to oversee pupil Premium spending
